summary
Armageddon has come and gone, and a few hundred years after that war, the world has been split into two groups: the Empire, on the country Methuselah and ran by vampires, and the Vatican, a religious order of men and mankind's hope against the extremist vampire factions.
Meet Abel Nightroad, an ordained priest of the Vatican, sent to help maintain the uneasy peace between the two groups, despite the vampires and the mysterious order Rosen Kreuz out to ferment discord. Fortunately, Abel is armed with a powerful blood scythe, has allies in Sister Esther and the cyborg Tres Iqus - and he isn't entirely human, either....

Abel Nightroad (voiced by Hiroki Touchi - you might know him as Ken Matushiro of Yakitake Japan) - happy-go-lucky priest of the Vatican, Abel has a darker past than most would expect of him, and an even darker side. He is a Crusnik - more and less a human.
Tres Iqus / HC-III X (voiced by Kazuya Nakai - you might know him as Zoro of One Piece) - the no-nonsense cyborg working for the Vatican. While he seems emotionless and cold, evidence points that he isn't always the heartless, mechanical program he appears to be.
Esther Blanchett (voiced by Mamiko Noto - you might know her as Rin of Inu Yasha) - Determined to avenge her guardian, Esther takes matters into her own hands, with disastrous results. Later, she finds herself accompanying Abel.
Catherina Sforza (voiced by Takako Honda - you might know her as Jinta Hanakiri of Bleach) - An unbending and intimidating secretary of Foreign Affairs, and the Pope's older sister. She is one of those truly governing the Vatican.
Kate Scott (voiced by Hitomi Nabatame - you might know her as Nanao Ise of Bleach) - a hologram at te start of the series, she reports all current activities to Caterina. William Walter Wordsworth (voiced by Toru Ohkawa - you might know him as Roy Mustang of Full Metal Alchemist / Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) - a professor who seems to be the prodigy of the Baroness. Somewhat absentminded, but a good inventor.
Noelle Bor (voiced by Sayaka Ohara - you might know her as Rika Harada of Hachimitsu to Cover / Honey and Cover) a member of the Ax Agency wth the ability for extrasensory perception.
Monica Argento (voiced by - ?? ) daughter of a powerful Mafia family in Italy, she has the owers of teleportation and wield s two daggers as weapons.

Isaak Fernand von Kämpfer (voiced by Keiji Fujiwara - you might know him as Maes Hughes of Full Metal Alchemist / Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) - second in command to the elusive Rosen Kreuz faction.
Dietrich von Lohengrin (voiced by Kenichi Suzumura - you might know him as Kamui Shirou of X TV) - a supposed spy and rebel against the Empire, though he keeps his true intentions to himself. Very useful with machines.

Francesco di Medici (voiced by Juurouta Kosugi - you might know him as Lantis and Zagato of Magic Knight Rayearth) - somewhat arrogant older step (half?) brother of Caterina, quick to use military force whenever a threat arises against the Empire. He is the leader of the Inquisition.
Alessandro XV III (voiced by Yoshinori Fujita) - Though he is the Pope and leader of the Vatican, Alessandro is easily bullied by his older siblings into doing what they want in Vatican business.

Trinity Blood was originally a novel written by Sunao Yoshida. It was later on adapted as a manga by Kujyo Kiyo. The Trinity Blood animation series was announced in 2004, a few weeks before Sunao Yoshida tragically dies of lung blockage. He was only 34 years old.
Trinity Blood has been likened to many series with similar themes: Helsing (theme - doesn't help that the strong-willed Caterina looks a lot like the equally strong-willed Integra either), Trigun (protagonist - similar personality between Abel and Vash Stampede), even Final Fantasy (Zeppelin ship designs). Still, the series manages to give old themes entirely unique twists and making them their own. The music and soundtrack is beautiful, Crusniks entirely unique, awesome weaponry (blood scythe!), the protagonists lovable and some of the bad guys redemptive in the eyes of viewers.
